Torba is a tranquil sea-side village, situated on Turkey’s Bodrum Peninsula, 6km south of the larger, bustling resort of Bodrum. It is one of the most scenic resorts in the region, boasting an abundance of greenery, and attracts visitors looking for a relaxing holiday and somewhere to use as a base to explore the surrounding areas, including several quaint villages dotted along the coast. Torba itself is home to a sand and pebble beach, excellent watersports and top notch dining opportunities.
Torba is the closest of all of the resorts on the peninsular to Bodrum Milas International Airport, with a journey time of just 25 minutes. Taxis and local bus connections are available to Torba. Alternatively, private transfers from the airport can be organised.
The climate on the Bodrum peninsular is perfect, with little humidity due to prevailing winds from the north, and non-stop sunshine from May to October. There is an average summer temperature of 30C.
From November until February you can expect temperatures of 12-15C and plenty of sunshine, though rainfall is fairly regular and the evenings can be cold.
Torba’s sand and pebble beach provides a relaxing seafront experience and is the first port of call for many visitors. However, if you need an excuse to leave the beach, the resort offers plenty of history-hunting, including old monasteries, ruins and age-old tombs tucked in the hills.
Indeed, for those who enjoy sight-seeing, the entire region is blessed with some fascinating sites of historical interest. Nearby Bodrum is built on the site of the ancient city of Halicarnassus and features the remains of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the tomb of King Mausolus.
Torba is also the terminus for ferry services between the Didyma and Bodrum peninsula where day excursions can be made to the famous Temple of Apollo. Ferries also transports visitors to the impressive sites of ancient Priene and Miletos.
The nightlife in Torba is fairly sedate, but if you’re yearning for more activity than the resort has to offer, the party town of Gumbet is a quick taxi ride or local bus away.
