Situated in a sheltered bay in the south-west corner of Tenerife. Los Cristianos has come a long way from its origins as a sleepy fishing village, having grown into an established package-holiday resort teeming with modern hotels, apartment blocks, shopping centres and restaurants.
Nonetheless, the resort has retained plenty of its traditional feel, with the bustling harbour remaining testimony to its fishing village past, whilst the sandy beaches help ensure the natural landscape remains as attractive as ever. Visitors looking for pure relaxation could certainly while away their entire visit in the resort, though for those seeking a more adventurous and action-packed trip, Los Cristianos also merges into the more glitzy and boisterous resort of Playa de las Americas How to get to Los CristianosMost visitors to Los Cristianos will fly into Tenerife South Airport, which is around 15km away, and connects to a vast array of cities across Europe. There is a public bus service that regularly departs from the airport to resorts across the island, though given the relatively short distance between the airport and Los Cristianos, visitors may prefer the convenience of a taxi. When to visit Los CristianosAs is true across Tenerife, Los Cristianos is a superb all-year-round destination, with the average temperature across the seasons rarely dropping below 60C and more often climbing above 80C. Refreshing sea breezes provide respite from the heat and ensures little humidity, whilst rainfall during the summer months is highly infrequent. The summer months are a busy time of year for Los Cristianos, though winter also draws sizeable numbers of visitors searching out sunshine. If you’re visiting during winter, you should note that the evenings can get relatively cold, and you should pack accordingly. Perhaps the resort's best beach, the Playa de las Vistas is in fact man-made, with sand imported from the Sahara. Excellent for a day time stroll is the old town centre, which stretches from the port up to the resort’s shopping district. Indeed, Los Cristianos boasts an array of shops, whilst a tourist street market is held in the resort every Sunday. However, if you find things here too tame for your tastes, you can jump in a taxi to nearby Playa de las Americas which boasts a more raucous nocturnal atmosphere, particularly around the famous Veronicas Strip. Popular day trips and excursions from Los Cristianos include ferry and hydrofoil trips to the nearby islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, as well as boat trips for dolphin and whale viewing. Several inland excursions are also on offer, such as trips to the capital, Santa Cruz, the Mount Teide National Park and the Tenerife Zoo. |
