Located on the south east coast of the island, 65km from Rhodes Town, Kiotari is a relatively new and increasingly popular beach resort. Holidays here tend to suit families, couples and independent travellers looking for a relaxing break.
Other than the beach, there is relatively little by way of attractions, although the impressive heritage site of Lindos is just 15km away. Other nearby places of interest include the village of Asklipion with its Byzantine church and medieval castle ruins, the island promontory of Prasonissi and the neighbouring resort of Lardos.
Kiotari is served by Rhodes International Airport Diagoras which connects to a large number of cities across Europe. Kiotari is 65km south of the airport and can be reached by public bus, via Lindos. There are also taxis from the airport, though these are very expensive over such a distance.
Several budget airlines fly to Rhodes, including easyJet, Ryanair, Thomas Cook and Thomson.
It is also possible to get to Rhodes by ferry from mainland Greece. The obvious option is to do so from Athens, but ferries from the Greek capital take around 12 hours. Instead, you may want to consider getting a ferry from Marmaris in Turkey, which takes just an hour. Marmaris is served by Dalaman Airport, which connects to most major airports in Europe.
Much like the rest of the island, Kiotari enjoys a superb all-year-round climate, with over 300 days of annual sunshine. Things start to hot up in April when temperatures rise above 20C. There is then a steady rise with peaks of 35C in July and August, before starting to cool down in September.
Rain is infrequent during the summer months, though evenings can get a touch nippy, with strong island winds causing a chill, so you should pack accordingly.
Life in Kiotari revolves around the beach. Part pebbles and part sand, the beach here stretches the entire length of the resort and is a popular spot with windsurfers and snorkellers.
Additionally, sailing, canoeing and banana boat rides are also on offer from Kiotari beach.
Golfing enthusiasts will enjoy the proximity of an 18-hole championship golf course in nearby Afandou. The course is open to beginners and seasoned golfers alike.
Finally, no trip to Rhodes would be complete without visiting the heritage site of Lindos. Located just 15km away, Lindos makes for an ideal day trip from Kiotari. Once there you will find an imposing acropolis overlooking cobbled, winding streets lined with shops, restaurants and roof-top bars. Public buses run 4 times a day between Kiotari and Lindos.
