Innsbruck Guide

About Innsbruck, Austria

Innsbruck is a multi-cultural hub that has been around since the Stone Age. Many different nations are represented in this Alpine town including the Turks, North Africans, Indians, Chinese and even Nepalese. These thriving minorities have brought their countries into Innsbruck by way of market places, restaurants, shops and conventional language and have helped made the city flourish.

It should also be noted that Innsbruck did suffer immensely during the World Wars when Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany. KZ Innsbruck-Reichenau concentration camp was located here and the city suffered mental and physical blows throughout wartimes.

Today Innsbruck's location is also ideal for winter sports lovers. It is nestled to each side by the Alps. And, with an average temperature of 9 degrees Celsius (40 Fahrenheit), it is the perfect winter playground for those that love skiing, snowshoeing and other cold weather activities. It also has a lovely and well-kept pedestrian village in its history section where visitors can spend the day weaving in and out of quaint shops and cafes.
