Situated on the south coast of Tenerife just a few kilometres from the island’s main airport, Golf del Sur is - as the perceptive may have gathered - primarily a golfing resort. There are several world-class courses located here, many of which are set within the grounds of luxury 5-star hotel complexes, and offer stunning panoramic views.
Despite the heavy focus towards golf, there are plenty of other activities and attractions in the resort that will keep you or your holiday partner occupied. The San Blas commercial centre has a pretty square lined with restaurants, bars and shops, and there is also tennis, crazy golf and bowling on offer. The resort is also an ideal base from which to explore the livelier towns of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, which are easily reached by bus.
One downside that prospective visitors should be aware of is that aircraft noise can be heard in the resort, and if this is likely to cause you annoyance, you may want to consider one of the resorts further away from the airport.
Golf del Sur is just a few kilometres from Tenerife South Airport, which connects to a vast amount of cities across Europe.
Whilst many visitors make use of the airport’s public bus service to reach their hotel, in light of the short distance to Golf del Sur, it may be more convenient to jump in a taxi.
Much like the rest of Tenerife, Gold del Sur is a superb all-year-round destination, with the average temperature throughout the seasons rarely dropping below 60C and more often rising above 80C.
Cooling sea breezes ensure the resort suffers little humidity whilst rainfall during the summer months is almost unheard of.
Whilst the summer months are a busy time of year for Golf del Sur, winter also draws substantial numbers of visitors hunting for sunshine. Those who choose to come during winter should note that the evenings can get relatively cold, so pack accordingly.
Visitors wanting nothing more than a relaxing holiday can while away their time in Golf del Sur on the resort’s small shingle beach, or reclining by their hotel pool. But if you’re looking for more to do during your stay then your options are plentiful.
The resort’s flagship attraction is the magnificent 27 hole Golf del Sur golf course. Since opening to the public in 1987, the course has hosted a number of internationally recognised competitions, and has developed a superb reputation with its generously sized greens and striking black volcanic sand bunkers.
Other popular golf courses in and around Golf del Sur include the 18 hole Amarilla Golf course, which also offers Pitch and Putt facilities, Golf Las Américas, Golf Las Américas, Golf Las Américas, all of which are a short drive from Golf del Sur.
In recent years the resort and its neighbours have also benefited from the construction of the San Miguel Marina complex, situated a little to the west of Golf del Sur. The Marina has a vast jetty, providing moorings for hundreds of boats, including some impressive luxury vessels which lend a touch of chic exclusivity to the area around Golf del Sur.
Other attractions around the Marina include a good choice of bars and restaurants. Moreover, the marina is also the mooring point of The Sub Fun Cinco submarine, with submerged trips on offer which last around 40-50 minutes.
Returning to dry land, the commercial centre of the Golf del Sur is actually a little to the east of the centre, and is known as San Blas. Most of the resort’s nightlife activity is centred here, particularly around the main square. There’s also a reasonable selection of souvenir shops and supermarkets here, as well as some restaurants.
For keen walkers, there are plenty of walking trails around Golf del Sur, with one of the most popular taking you along the clifftop paths to the sleepy fishing village of Los Abrigos.
