St Ives is great destination for families and Tregenna Castle with its wealth of amenities is an ideal choice. The sprawling Tregenna grounds have a range of accommodation options including idyllic holiday homes, sea view rooms and luxury cottages and apartments. I stayed in one of the sea view rooms which was comfortable enough, lots of satellite channels on TV along with most of the other standard stuff you would expect. Only minus was the shower fitted in the bath tub which was a little old and not very powerful. All in all though I thought it was reasonable value for money.

Wandering around the picturesque gardens is a pleasant experience and the impressive lawns overlooking the bay are no wonder the hotel is a very popular venue for weddings.

The hotel has two restaurants the Trelawney and the Godrevy which offer fine dining and brasserie options. You can also order cream teas which are delicious.

Family fun

Tregenna offers a lot to keep the adults and kids happy. There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a crochet lawn, outdoor tennis courts and indoor squash and badminton courts. Tregenna also has a challenging and fun 18 hole par three golf course which is ideal for players of all levels. Walking from the 10th tee the flowers and foliage make it seem like Cornwall’s answer to the Augusta National and The Masters. The view from the 11th tee with the bay as a backdrop is truly breath taking and definitely the most beautiful hole on the course.

The hotel also has an excellent gym and offers a range of spa treatments for those that seek a little pampering.

Beach life, exploring

St Ives has a few lovely little beaches with soft white sand and clear warm turquoise water. The compact nature of St Ives means that whether you stay you are never really far from a beach. The little town is made for strolling whether it’s down by the harbour grabbing some delicious fish and chips or a famous Cornish pasty or taking in the myriad of delightful cottages or galleries which they seem to be at every corner. There are a number of really nice restaurants in the town and quite a few offer outdoor terrace dining with great views overlooking the sea.
