It is traditional in appearance and timber features prominently in the bedrooms. The hotel itself dates back to the 13th century. Originally owned by the early Bishops in the day of William the Conqueror, it is rumoured that in 1587 Elizabeth I slept there.
The 84 bedrooms feature a mixture of traditionally decorated rooms that retain the hotel's original charm or more contemporary rooms - the prominent theme is that they are comfortable and well equiped. All have en suite bath or shower facilities, duvets, satellite TV, trouser press, hair dryer and hospitality tray. There is free WiFi access throughout as well.
The AA Rosette awarded Courtyard Restaurant has an a la carte menu that changes regularly in conjunction with seasonal produce, incorporating the abundance of fine local Norfolk produce. The food is of a very high quality. Alternatively, guests can take a step back in time at The Maids Head Bar, Norwich's oldest serving bar. This Jacobean bar is a real treat and exudes charm and character. Sample a fine wine, local beer or whisky in this cosy snug bar or sample the lounge bar menu. For a more contemporary bar there is the The Yard Bar, a chic and up beat bar offering a Tapas menu, quirky cocktails and fine wines.
The Maids Head Hotels is in the heart of the city centre, located opposite the famous Norman Cathedral and only 20 minutes from Norwich City Football Club.
This is the perfect place to stay if you want to visit the historic city of Norwich and to explore the many attractions in the area that include the Norfolk Broads and nearby Sandringham. The hotel was recently awarded it's 4 star status and comes highly recommended. (GW 09/2009)
