Despite its grand reputation, the exterior of this hotel is surprisingly restrained with its dark grey facade and small unassuming entrance.

The rooms are decorated in homely style with high quality dark wood furniture and pale pastel colour schemes, they have been regularly updated and maintained, so that although they aren't new, they are in good condition. As elsewhere in the hotel, all rooms have a number of pieces of original Icelandic art on display. The bathrooms are also in good condition.

The restaurant and bar at this hotel are steeped in tradition and have a wonderful atmosphere redolent of a fine gentlemens' club. The walls are lined with beautiful original paintings by Icelandic artists.

This hotel is located in a quiet residential street right in the old centre of Reykjavik. This is also the main Embassy area.

This wonderful traditional hotel doesn't need to shout about its class and style. Just the opportunity to view the breathtaking collection of Icelandic art displayed throughout the property is surely worth the price of the room!
