It is a traditional building and is one of Edinburgh's most distinguished hotels. It was originally built in 1903 as part of the old Caledonian railway station. It does have a wing which was built in later years.
Many of the bedrooms have been renovated recently to a very high standard - these are now sold as superior rooms. The decor is beautiful and the bathroom's are marble. The standard rooms are more basic but are still in a fair condition. There is a view of Edinburgh Castle from some rooms.
There are two restaurants. One is slightly more formal decorated in soft pastels with delicate murals on the walls. The other restaurant is less formal and offers a wide variety of meals in relaxed surroundings. There is also an infomal wine bar which is open to the public and a smaller, intimate cocktail bar.
This hotel is centrally located on Prince's Street in the centre of Edinburgh. A fantastic location for this landmark hotel.
One of the very best hotels in Edinburgh with a full leisure club. (BL 11/2005)
