We managed to get our holadiy on a great deal. As we didnt pay as much, the little things that would have niggled us were easier to let go. We arrrived at the hotel about an hour after leaving the airport to be greeted with cold flannels and champers. It was a great way to arrive and the staff had a little makeshift reception set up with all your check in deatils ready. This took us all of 5 mins and we were on a golf buggy being taken to our room really quickly. We were in 4625 and this was a room on the 2nd floor (great if you dont like the crabs!) and was roughly half way between the pool and the beach. The room was large, clean and we had a large balcony. The fridge was stocked with pop and water which was replaced daily. If there is one tip i can offer you its that i would reccomend taking a little torch. On our first night walking to the resturant we narrowly missed stepping on a huge frog and the crabs wont neccesarily move for you!! We did meet another couple who were in a ground floor room and they had a huge problem with the crabs so the hotel moved them into a second floor room. The pool area was big and there was never a shortage of sunbeds. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you are pool people for your own sanity take the entertainment staff a new CD!! They seemed to play the same one for the entire week, and i cannot now listen to Katie Perrys Calfornia girl without wanting to scream. The entertainment staff do work tirelessly and dont bother you if your like us and prefer to watch as opposed to take part! The beach is nice though a little stoney but we only ventured there a handful of times. The real downside to the hotel is the service. We went armed with extra money especially to tip the staff as we have read the reviews on here as to how good the staff are. Well i will only tip good service and dont believe in tipping to GET good service. The main resturant service was terrible. We would often not even get a drink offered to us, and if we did manage to get a drink then we wouldnt ever get the offer for a 2nd if we finished it before the end of our meal. The worst were the evening staff who would avoid making eye contact with you so they didnt have to serve you. The worst time was during the luchtime sitting we were forced to sit at a filthy table, with no cutlery and no drink as there was no tables made up at all. When you are in a 4 star hotel you really dont expect this. There was one lady who was nice at breakfast time, always had a smile for you, and my otherhalf built up a rapport with the omlette/pancake lady who he made sure had a nice big fat tip at the end of the break. things werent much better at the lobby bar, and when we mentioned the service to the rep she simply told us its because the staff have no incentive to be tipped cause you have already paid for the service! hmmmm I wasnt impressed at all and it really put a dampener on going for a meal. This said we did go to the Cuban resturant and the food was lovely and service was fab! My other half had a lobster and it was huge and really meaty! The best however was the Japanese resturant, where you are part of a group. This was by far the best meal we had! I dont do japanese foot and this isnt really, its just chicken/beef/and fish cooked in front of you, but you really should go!We did the day trip to Havana, which was a very long day. We were collected at 6am, and then taken to the airport. we flew the 90 min journey to Havana and had a great day with just 1 other couple and our tour rep Simmi. It was SImmi that really made our trip to havana. She gave us a real insight to Havana and Cuba and managed to answer all of our questions. She was fantastic and she is a real asset to her company. Unfortunantly we did have an 8 hour delay on the way home which was horrid, however Simmi managed to get us all food and drink and when we informed nancy the Thomas Cook rep of the delay she arranged for us to be in the VIP lounge on return home to the UK at Holguin airport. Nothing was to much touble for Nancy and as a former rep myself she again is an asset to Thomas Cook. All in all we enjoyed our break, and as previoulsy mentioned as we paid nowhere near brochure price we were happy, however we wont be returning to the PCV. We never go to the same place twice anyway but just hope that hotel management look at this review and right the few wrongs that they have there.
