Description

This family-run hotel is set in a tranquil location only twenty minutes from Inverness and offers stunning views, log fires, forest walks, free WiFi and an AA rosette for good food. The house sits majestically at the end of a half-mile driveway and is set in 8 acres of mature woodland, which also boast a private 9-hole pitch and putt. Coul House is the perfect place in which to rediscover the romance and beauty of the Highlands. A unique octagonal restaurant and many other homely features add to the charming ambiance of the hotel. The property is personally supervised by the proprietors, who ensure a relaxed and hospitable atmosphere. The ancient Mackenzies of Coul picked a wonderful situation for this classic country house hotel. Originally built in 1821 for Sir George Mackenzie as a traditional hunting lodge, its stunning views over the Strathconon Valley and Achilty mountains beyond, eight acres of mature woodland, private 9-hole pitch and putt and unique octagonal dining room make it an ideal venue for a quiet getaway, small wedding or conference. The grand octagonal-shape restaurant, which is the centrepiece of the hotel, has an intricately stuccoed ceiling complete with Greek key, thistle and Celtic knot motifs. In the evenings you'll often see beautiful sunsets through the 3 ceiling-to-floor windows, which offer fabulous views of the surrounding area. Both a grill and an à la carte menu are available, offering contemporary gourmet meals. Ingredients are locally sourced wherever possible, often featuring Scottish game, local Salmon, homemade breads, pastries and delightful desserts. There are 4 lower ground-floor rooms and 17 first-floor bedrooms with an en suite bath and shower and modern appliances. Each bedroom is individually decorated in keeping with the character of the house. All bedrooms have stunning views of the Strathconon Valley and the mountains beyond, or the mature woodlands and hillside. The small village of Contin sits on the banks of the River Conon and is a fantastic spot for nature lovers with attractions including the Achility Forest with miles of bike and walking trials; Rogie Waterfalls with salmon leaping throughout the summer; secluded lochs, including Loch Ness; and abundant wildlife combined with stunning views over Strathconon Valley. Coul House is located close to places of interest such as Dingwall, Beauly Firth and Jamestown.
