The hotel is centred around a 16th century farmhouse and the atmosphere created is very 'olde-worlde' with oak beams and log fires

The rooms are all of a good size, with garden views and have a traditional feel to them. There are all the facilities expected from this standard of hotel.

The restaurants are the lion d'or, which serves a formal a la carte menu.. The 'garden room' provides a more informal menu with a table d'hote menu as well as a carvery. There is also a library bar and lounge as well as a traditional English pub

This hotel is located in the village of Copthorne. It is 6 minutes from the airport and is surrounded by green fields in a tranquil setting.

A delightful proprty that is ideal for those not wanting the direct noise of the airport yet wanting to be within very close proximity.

Living in London, I'd never have planned to stay in a Gatwick hotel. However, having circled the extremely foggy Island of Jersey for thirty minutes our plane was sent back to where we had started. After a further seven hour wait at Gatwick departures it became clear (no pun intended) that reaching the Channel Islands wasn't a viable option that evening and I found myself staying in the Copthorne

The staff were great. They were friendly, helpful and welcoming, which was appreciated especially as an unimaginable number of us trooped in on what would have otherwise been a nice quiet shift.

My room was large and clean with heating that I could easily control and had a good wifi connection. The TV was big and the bed had been made in such a way that I felt the need to slide in from the pillow end so as not to disturb the well tucked sides. It was comfortable. The wardrobe held hangers, spare blankets and an ironing board. Also residing in the room were two lounge chairs, a coffee table and a kettle accompanied by a hot drinks selection. A mini fridge against one wall was not switched on, although it is more than likely that this is down to the room being a last minute allocation. The en suite bathroom was also very clean with a hot and powerful shower, full length bath and soft white towels. It was stocked with the usual selection of travel sized toiletries.

The hotel has a lounge bar and a mini pub as well as a separate dining area, all accessible from the main entrance hall. The food was well priced, served with a smile and took just long enough to arrive at our table to reassure us that it hadn't been microwaved. It was very tasty.

A taxi cost around eleven pounds from the North Terminal, but the Hotel also offers long and short term customer parking. The room pricing was reasonable and this place more than did the job. I would comfortably recommend it to anyone that was passing through.
