This was our fifth visit over a period of 18 years and we love the stunning location, friendliness and natural beauty of the place. The hotel is now adults only, all-inclusive (previously Thomson Gold) The emphasis is laid-back relaxation.

Set in a steep hillside, there are five main buildings plus clusters of bungalow/suites (some of which are a 10 minute steep walk from main facilities)

Our standard sea-view room was on the top floor of one of the main blocks and had panoramic sea views from its very private balcony. The room was very well-equipped, with full bathroom, fridge, TV/DVD, ‘phone, hairdryer, tea-making & digital safe (chargeable). It was all kept scrupulously clean.

The main buffet restaurant offered a broad selection of good quality food at breakfast, lunch & dinner, with waiter-service drinks. (you can help yourself to wine & beer if it’s not coming fast enough, but we had no problem – the staff are attentive) There is an a la carte and Sushi bar, but both are now chargeable (previously one complimentary visit per week – possibly about to be reinstated)

The pool is modestly sized, but an extended decking area provides sunbathing space and there is also a roof terrace with its own bar. The pool bar provides the main focus during the day and remains open until 12.00pm. The beautiful sandy beach has its own bar, now covered by the all-inc, but its sunbeds are chargeable. The main lobby bar is the evening focus, with some music/simple entertainment most evenings and a lovely covered verandah where you can watch the spectacular sunsets. The more popular shows highlighted a shortage of seating.

An animation team offer an ambitious programme on paper, but we found it poorly organized and lacking any “spark”. A group of us borrowed the equipment and organized ourselves. The area offers good, albeit challenging, walks.

The village of Aghios Gordios has lots of bars, restaurants and small shops and can by reached via the beach or the steep access road. A bus runs three times daily to Corfu town. Some of the beach tavernas seem to be suffering since the hotel went all-inclusive two years ago.

The staff, many of whom have been there since our first visit, (and remembered us) are among the best we have experienced anywhere, friendly and efficient.
