The Grand Amsterdam, a 5-star deluxe hotel, is located just a few minutes from Dam Square and is surrounded by 2 canals which link the port to the Amstel river. While retaining the soul of a historic site, The Grand – converted into a hotel only in 1992 – offers you the highest level of modern facilities: 138 luxurious rooms, 28 suites and 16 apartments all with modern facilities. You can enjoy the renowned Café Roux restaurant, an elegant bar and a spa with heated swimming pool, sauna and Turkish bath. The hotel’s magic is accentuated by a charming inner garden where, when weather permitting, you can have lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or simply enjoy a relaxed drink.
Successively a convent in the 15th century, a Royal Inn in the 16th century, headquarters of the Dutch Admiralty in Holland's "Golden Age", then Town Hall and in 1966 the setting for the wedding of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, The Grand has certainly left its mark on the history of Amsterdam. Uniquely bordered front and back by two canals the buildings housing the hotel have been at the heart of the city life for over six centuries. This magnificently restored historic building now offers discerning visitors all the facilities of a "Deluxe" hotel. When you are a guest of The Grand, its regal service, cordial welcome, classic interiors and the homey atmosphere make you feel as if you were a real Lord or Lady. The spacious salon with its burgundy colours, flower patterns and authentic English furniture are both strict and warm. The Grand is ideally located in the heart of Amsterdam's historic centre, just a stone's throw from the key financial institutions, the famous Dam Square and thirty minutes from Schiphol International Airport. Each Sofitel aims to reflect the spirit of the location and create moments of intense enjoyment for its guests. Our professional team is at your disposal to meet your expectations and provide you with a unique experience in The Grand Amsterdam.
This hotel is located in the old part of Amsterdam overlooking one of the cities most charming canals and is just a short walk from the Central Station, Dam Square and the Red Light district, as well as the main shopping street called the Kalverstraat. It is a former 16th century Royal Inn and was the setting for the wedding of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
The rooms are medium to large in size and decorated in old English style. The rooms vary slightly as they have been individually designed to reflect the building's historic past. They have views onto the 17th century canals, the secluded garden or the paved inner courtyard. The bathrooms, like the rooms, are in excellent condition and decorated in marble with gold taps. However, the entire hotel will have undergone a major refurbishment in 2008/9 and the new rooms will be far more contemporary with a mainly purple colour scheme, flat screen tv with bose sound system, a small writing desk and large walk-in rain showers in the bathroom. They will finally offer accommodation and style expected of this deluxe property.
The restaurant is located on the ground floor and serves a wonderful local menu with a French influence. Both the food and the service is first class. Breakfast is also served in the restaurant which currently overlooks the street and canal but is also going to further benefit from a complete renovation in 2009
The lobby is of medium size and is undergoing a total renovation. The reception area is finished and offers a more contemporary feel with a feature butterfly light above the reception desk and marble effect pillars on either side. When the lobby is finished, it will also incorporate a bar lounge.
The hotel has retained its historical features and has one of the most impressive entrances in Amsterdam with a welcoming courtyard offering peace and tranquility, in the heart of the city centre.
With its ideal location and friendly and efficient staff, this is one of the best hotels in Amsterdam.
