The Domus Sessoriana revives the old tradition of hospitality extended by the monks of Santa Croce. Business and professional men, scholars and savants, present day pilgrims and discerning tourists can be accomodated in buildings of historical and archutectural interest, with impeccable service in a world famous setting.
The Domus Sessoriana is laid out in one wing of the Monastery of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme on the slopes of the Esquiline Hill in central Rome, a short distance from the Colosseum and the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. The Basilica is built on the site of one of the Imperial palaces, flanked by the Aurelian city Walls, the remains of the Circo Variano and the Anfiteatro Castrense. The Emperor Constantine and his mother Helena inaugurated the first openly Christian church here. The Domus' 60 rooms are placed in two different wings of the building: the "Conventual's Wing" and the "Palazzina Wing". Minibar, safe box, satellite TV, air conditioning, cold buffet breakfast, meeting & conference rooms and internet point are only samples of the amenities we foresee in order to make your staying in the Eternal City the most attractive and unforgettable you have ever spent.
Domus Sessoriana lies inside an Archaeological complex were there are the ruins of the Temple of Venus and Cupid. In the ancient times State councils were held, inside there is also the gorgeous Castrensian Amphitheatre which dates back to the epoch of the Emperor Eliogabalo (218-222). In the Amphitheatre there use to take place shows involving gladiator fights and battles between humans and wild beasts; now it hosts the Cistercian Vegetable Garden. The building is divided in two sections. The Conventual wing On the right face of the Basilica, occupies part of the Ancient Monastery which is sited on three levels that includes the hall, the refectory and rooms of various dimensions all delicately furnished. On the first floor the rooms are all of a superior category provided with Wi-Fi. From the floor it is possible to see the Temple of Venus and Cupid. A glazed lift allows to admire majestic canvas of the nineteenth century. The Aurelian wing On the left according to the face of the Church, occupies a building that extends towards the Imperial Amphitheatre. It is situated on five floors which are completely restructured and delicately furnished, connected with an internal lift. The rooms look over on the archaeological remains of the Imperial Villa of Constantine, on Claudian Aqueduct begun by Calligola or on the enchanting square of Saint Cross in Jerusalem, restructured in occasion of the 2000 Jubilee. From the balcony of The Domus Sessoriana the guests can enjoy the view who overlooks Saint John in Lateranos Basilica, The Monastery Gardens of Saint Cross in Jerusalem and the roofs of Rome; on clear days it is also possible to admire the Roman Castles.
The hotel is located within easy access of all the main tourist attractions, and it’s not far from Termini station. The hotel is set inside the Santa Croce, in Gerusalemme Basilica, in an area which was a residence of the ancient emperors and where it is still possible to enjoy the view of the ancient remains.
Rooms are quite large and luminous, with tall ceilings and floors made of terracotta tiles. The style is simple, and most of the furnishings are made of iron, but the colours and the texture of the fabric, together with hand-crafted objects coming from the treasure of the monastery, make the bedrooms look attractive and comfortable. Rooms offer all the modern comforts. Both bedrooms and bathrooms are in excellent condition.
There is a large restaurant available for groups only.
The lobby is medium in size and reproduces the original features of the monastery/museum, with its high walls and massive paintings. The seating area recalls the simple life of the monks, where the dominant material was iron. Flowers and plants help to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
This monastery has now been adapted as a 3-storey hotel building. The hotel is set inside the Santa Croce in Gerusalemme Basilica. The hotel is built on the top of the house of Wueen Elena. The entrance is at the side of the Basilica entrance.
The hotel has a large terrace that offers a panoramic view of Rome. The museum is accessible to the hotel guests. This is a unique property in a historical location which offers a special atmosphere. The easy way to get there is to get the metro from Termini station (LINE A) and walk about 5-10 minutes from there. The No. 649 bus from Termini station to Piazza Santa Croce also services the area. 08/07 FR
