A minute of history: The original building of the hotel was designed by the famous architects Sir Thomas Dean and Benjamin Woodward, a partnership which also designed two of Dublin's finest buildings, the Museum Building at Trinity College and the Kildare Street Club.

The building was originally a parochial school opened in 1861 and was at the centre of the Battle of Mount Street during the 1916 Easter Rising. The school closed in 1969 and reopened in 1998 as the Schoolhouse Hotel.
