Many of the original features were retained in order that the property could keep its essential character. The rooms are all exceptionally spacious, each is different, and each is furnished differently.Our bar is large enough to accommodate a good crowd, yet remains intimate. Being close to Dundee's two universities, The Shaftesbury attracts many visiting academics. Business visitors find the hotel is very convenient for the commercial sector of town too. A wide selection of malt whiskies can be sampled in the Garden Bar. Our licence is restricted to residents and restaurant guests only, so you can be sure of a quiet, relaxing evening. The Shaftesbury has established a reputation for the quality and variety of its food, cooked by chef Bill Morrison, who has worked with Dennis Smith for over twenty years. He especially loves cooking Scottish Game dishes. Due to the age of the building, the Shaftesbury Hotel does not have a lift.

Located in quite residential area in west end of Dundee close to Dundee Rep and Contemporary Arts Centre, main shopping centres, good pubs and the University. Ideally situated for both business and pleasure.

Entering Dundee from Perth and the east (A90), follow the signs for the City Centre and airport. At the first roundabout, bear left, signposted Sinderins and University. At the top of the hill, the road bends left. At this bend, turn right (Perth Road). Go along this road, looking out for a Shell filling station. Just before the filling station, turn left into Hyndford Street. The Shaftesbury Hotel is on the right.From Aberdeen, the north and Fife, Follow signs for the Tay Bridge and City Centre. Just past the Tay Road Bridge, you come to a large roundabout. Go straight on (signposted Perth). Follow this road past the airport. At the first roundabout after the airport, turn right, signposted Sinderins and University. At the top of the hill, the road bends left. At this bend, turn right (Perth Road). Go along this road, looking out for a Shell filling station. Just before the filling station, turn left into Hyndford Street. The Shaftesbury Hotel is on the right.
