Monaco has a wide range of hotels and although many are in the luxury class, there are still some in the medium and budget range if you are prepared to hunt around and stay a little way outside the centre. Some of the most luxurious hotels can be found in the capital of Monte Carlo.
Monaco’s most famous hotel, and one of the most renowned in the world, is the 5-star Hotel de Paris. Located on the Place Casino, directly opposite the iconic Monte Carlo casino, this hotel boasts two of the finest restaurants in Monaco – Le Louis XV and the Grill de l’Hotel de Paris. Prices are, as you would expect, extremely steep.
For a more affordable touch of luxury, an excellent choice would be the 4-star Hermitage, renowned for its belle époque decor which has earned it the status of a historically important monument. This Monaco hotel also offers superb views of the Monte Carlo harbour and is just minutes from the casino.
There is little on offer in Monaco in the way of youth hostels or low-end accommodation in general, but one good budget hotel is the 3-star Alexandra, which is situated in the centre of Monte Carlo, offering excellent access to all the major attractions and activities in Monaco.
An alternative for those looking for hotels in Monaco is to stay in nearby Nice or Menton. Both of these resorts along the coast offer rapid transfers to Monaco by train. Nice in particular has a vast selection of hotels and apartments, and is situated 15 minutes west of Monaco, while Menton to the east is even closer and also offers a good range of accommodation.
