





High on a hill above Matlock and near the ruins of the Castle is Riber Hall (***), a 15th century manor house, decorated with period furniture including four poster beds. Outside there are walled gardens and an orchard as well as spectacular views. The Swallow New Bath Hotel (***) is in Regency style, and overlooks the Derwent Gorge. It boasts both indoor and outdoor pools and is set in 5 acres of grounds. In the centre of Matlock is Cromwell Hotel (***), a 100 year old building with the river running behind it. Four miles south of Matlock, you can find Alison House (****), an 18th century country house in the middle of the Derbyshire countryside.
