Madrid is a large but compact city, with most of its sights within walking distance of each other. This makes choosing a Madrid hotel a less complicated process, though there is still a great variety of accommodation options located in distinctive parts of the city for you to navigate before reaching your decision.
The areas of Retiro & Paseo del Pradom, to the east of the city centre, are home to a number of grand hotels, slap-bang in the city centre. There are also several Madrid hotels in the area around Gran Vía, Madrid's version of Broadway, which is also extremely central. This is where the city's bustling street-life it at its most vibrant, with many restaurants, bars, cinemas, theatres and shops.
In Salamanca, north east of the centre, there are also numerous accommodation options. The benefits of this area include its proximity to the delightful Retiro Park. Close by, the shopping district around Calle Serrano also has several affordable hotels.
