Due to the high student population at Birmingham’s three universities’ there are plenty of budget places to eat and sleep.
For those with a tight wallet, some of the best places area smack dab in the center of the city. Try the Etap Hotel or the Ibis. If you have a little bit to spare, some great mid-range hotels are Awentsbury or the Travelodge Birmingham. And if you’ve got money to burn, try the Hyatt Regency Birmingham, Crowne Plaza Birmingham, or Birmingham Marriot Hotel.
If your there to shop, stay close to the Bullring, which is also located near some lesser known shopping centers like the Pavillions, The Mailbox and Pallasades. These locations are on New Street, High Street and Corporation Street and feature an assortment of designer boutiques, chain stores and discount outlets.
If you’re there for cinema, music and theatre, try Station Street where a handful of movie cinemas, theatres and live music groups play regularly.
If you are there for drink fueled evenings try the city centre, Broad Street in particular. It was where many of the thousands of local students hang out after the last class bell has rung. There are also many indie and inexpensive venues to be had. The Arcadian section, close to Chinatown, is a low key option if you aren’t into getting roughed up while out for a drink.
