The dramatic facelift undergone by Bilbao over the past 15-20 years has been accompanied by the emergence of a large number of new hotels. Visitors to the city now have a good number of Bilbao hotels to choose from, ranging from budget to ultra-luxurious.
The majority of the options are mid-range, and there are just a few 5-star hotels. One popular top-of-the-range Bilbao hotel, however, is the Hotel Ercilla Lopez de Haro which boasts an excellent location, being close to several attractions including the Santiago Cathedral, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and the iconic Guggenheim Museum.
If that is a little beyond your budget, then you may want to consider the 4-star Carlton Hotel, which is a historically important hotel in Bilbao, being housed in a building that was the home of the first Basque government. This impressive Bilbao accommodation has had amongst its guests such eminent figures as Einstein and King Alfonso XIII.
Obviously not everyone who comes to the city will be looking for such impressive surroundings for their Bilbao hotel reservation. There are also a number of places to stay that, although not in quite the same category, nevertheless offer excellent service at cheaper prices. Some clean and comfortable 2 and 3-star options include the Barcelón Nervión, the Deusto and the Barceló Avenida. All of these hotels are located in the city centre, making getting around an easy task.
Also in the centre, in the Casco Viejo, is where you will find the majority of Bilbao’s budget accommodation, with several hostels and pensions located here.
