Xcapewithus Go Bust

When checking why sales were not converting through Xcapewithus this afternoon, I was met with the following announcement on their site:
We regret to inform you that XcapeWithUs.com has ceased trading as of 30 April 2009.
If you have a confirmed booking and we have your email address you will receive an email shortly explaining what steps you can take.
If your arrival date is 30 April 2009 or 1 May 2009 please email: customersupport@xcapewithus.com with full contact details including your reference number.
I was shocked and appalled. Let me explain why… Xcapewithus owes sletoh.com money in commission payments. Worse still, on behalf of diytravel.co.uk I paid Xcape £5400 this month for future bookings. Since I had formed a seemingly good relationship with their team (Wayne Purdham, Joe Cale and Carrie) I did not question paying by debit card and bank transfer. When I received a reminder to pay up on April 7th for a £3791 booking with arrival in June I saw no problem.
When I look back at the pricing offered by Xcapewithus over the past 3 months they have been undercutting market leaders like Alpharooms and GTAhotels significantly. The undercut prices were not in a destination here and a hotel there but instead across all countries and hotels. To do this it takes either:
I believe that second is the most likely. Xcape introduced bank transfer payments in March – this is the best way for a company to get money into their accounts instantly and without it going into any credit card processing company holding accounts. This is the type of move a company might make when needing cash quickly. I don’t know of any other company that accepts payment this way.
I have sent emails, Skype messages and telephoned the Xcapewithus team all day but to no avail.
Sadly there are now approx 10,000 customers and numerous business partners affected by the collapse of Xcapewithus. I hope there are not too many like us who have (1) lost their commissions or (2) did not pay by credit card.
I know from first hand experience the hardships involved when a company faces financial difficulties. As Managing Director you have to face and make hard decisions including cutting your own salary, selling off assets, laying off staff and re-thinking the entire business model. I hope that Xcapewithus Managing Director Andrew Miles did his best for the company and acted in its best interests at all times. It is too easy for UK company directors to mis-manage company affairs, liquidate a company and slither away to set up a new company in a different name.

Sorry to hear about how you’ve been scammed.
Their Directors will start up another business in a month having caused lots of other people misery. This is the way Directors often work in Blighty – start a business, ramp it up through stupid business practices, earn £200k salaries, brag about how successful it is and how ‘dynamic’ they are, and then go into liquidation. Then they do it all over again.
For what it’s worth, if anybody liquidated a business, I believe the law should ask them to pay back every penny times two before they are ever allowed to open up a business again.

My daughter arrived in Majorca today (30 Apr 09) to be told that the holel hasn’t received funds from Xcapewithus so she will have to pay the hotel direct. She paid in full in Feb 09 (by credit card) so hopes she will get her money back.
Good job the flight was booked seperately.

although we are in a similair situation 500£ lost we sympathize with you and would like to haer from you if you make any progress we are trying to find solution and will let you know if we make progress

My sympathies too.
I have two bookings with them for Majorca on 12 June, 7 people all inclusive over £1200, just accomodation.
Hotel confirms as per Brians post, reservation is on the books, but no monies paid, so pay seperately if you want to keep the booking, then take it up with your visa card company after.
If you’ve paid by switch or solo or maestro then you’ve lost the money it seems
It just seems unbelievable that these companies can take your money 8 weeks before departure and not pay the hotel’s etc until AFTER you’ve returned? There should be a seperate ‘escrow’ holding account by law, only used to pay hotel’s etc, not for running a company with

I consider myself lucky after only losing £130 for a long weekend off season. I feel sorry for many people who will have booked for whole families’ peak season and will not be able to afford to repay for another hotel.
What angers me about this is that Xcapewithus have made no attempt to contact people to tell them that they are no longer trading. I just noticed by chance when I went onto the website to check if my second payment had been taken. This probably means that there are 100’s of customers out there unaware of the situation. As mentioned above, people will be turning up at the hotels to be told that their reservation has not been honoured. Some may find out when they go to the website to print off their invoice, but that may be too close to the holiday date to sort out alternative accommodation. A simple email to all customers would prevent the above mess.
Secondly, I’m at loss to understand why a company dealing only in room bookings has gone under so hard that so many people have lost all their money. I can understand that happening with companies that have huge numbers of staff and Aircraft operating overheads/ costs etc, where thay can very quickly run up huge debts, but this outfit seems to have been no bigger than a small office of people. I would be very interested to find out where all the money has actually gone.

I also paid in full for hotel in Spain, £716.80. paid it on 16 april for holiday starting on 11th June. no money has been paid to hotel but we can pay them on arrival. only thing is that they want 1024 euro which works out at over £200 more.

I totally agree with the comments that you have made regarding the trading of Xcapewithus ltd.
Several months ago, I found out plans for a new company that the director Andrew Miles was in the process of creating. This will be called Zero Hotels Ltd and was created on 17th November 2008 on Companies House and is listed under reference 06750535.
I was led to believe that the company Xcapewithus Ltd was struggling a little at this point, but was in no way under the impression that the company would actually go into liquidation. At this time the company Zero was to be run in conjunction with Xcape with us Ltd not instead of!
At the earliest point after being advised that Xcape was more than likely going into administration I opted to leave, as I was not prepared to take further bookings or payments for the said bookings for a company that was knowingly going into liquidation, as there was a high probability that all customers would lose their bookings and monies paid for their bookings.
I am advising you of this as I sincerley hope that you WILL NOT USE THE COMPANY ZERO HOTELS LTD as it belongs to the same owners as XCAPEWITHUS.COM.
Hope this is of some help to all concerned.

It sounds like you worked for Xcape. Is this the case?
Many people think that staff are often the last to know when a company is in trouble. This isn’t the case for small companies and I believe that most staff know when things are going belly up. Some deal with it ethically as it seems that you did, others do not.
I am still waiting to hear from the Xcape staff that I thought I had built up a good relationship with and trusted £6000 to (Wayne Purdham, Joe Cale and Carrie).

DISCOVERED COMPANY HAD GONE BUST…WHAT REALLY GALLS ME IS I MADE MY BOOKING ON THE PHONE …WITH A WOMAN…SHE OBVIOUSLY HAS NO MORALS WHATSOEVER AS I SPOKE ABOUT HOW EXCITED MY 6 AND 4 YEAR OLD WOULD BE HAVING NOT HAD A BEACH HOLIDAY BEFORE…I HOPE YOU SLEEP WELL AT NIGHT AS WE CANNOT AFFORD TO REBOOK AS WE HAVE LOST DEPOSIT AND PRICES HAVE GONE UP. IN ADDITION WHEN I CONTACTED HOTEL TO SEE IF BOOKING COULD BE HONOURED THE HOTEL HAD NEVER RECIEVED OUR BOOKING FROM XCAPE WITH US. SO THEY WERE OBVIOUSLY WELL AWARE OF PROBLEM AT THE TIME. I’ve lost £1000 by booking a hotel in majorca with xcapewithus, paid on maestro debit card so can’t claim thru chargeback. Andrew Miles needs to be paid a visit… i bet he’s not ended up on the streets, maybe he’ll let us stay in his posh villa next week as we have no hotel now!

i am just back from cyprus what a dissaster myself husband daughter son in law and grandson where booked in to the crown horizon hotel in coral bay all inclusive, when we arrived at the hotel the reseptionest gave us our keys put our bands on we went looking for our rooms when a member of staff from the hotel approuched us to say the rooms where not paid for, xcapewithus had gone bust.
we were all in shock it was a horrible experience my grandson only 11 month old and myself suffers from ms
we asked how much it was going to cost to stay at this hotel when we were told 1700 euros £600 more than we had already paid xcapewithus.
my daughter paid xcape with us with her switch card so they have stole our money
if there is any one out there that can help us will be so pleased to hear from you these people should not get away with this please help !!!!!!!!!

hi got to our hotel 09/05/2009 only to be told we were not booked in because Xcapewithus had ceased to operate 30/04/2009. Good job we took our c/card or we would have been stranded.we payed in full 14/10/2008 they did not have the guts to e.mail us.it cost us an xtra £250 on top of price we payed in october good job we booked our flights seperately.

I am another victim of this underhand company – me and eight others. I had booked with Xcapewithus for October 2009 to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday. Have not told my other friends yet, waiting to see the outcome, Only hope I have is that I can claim back from my credit card company! Have priced the same hotel and like a lot of others it is going to cost a lot more than the original quote.

hi all.
i arrived in benidorm last week 14/06/2009 to find that my apartment had not been booked by this disgusting money grabbing company!! this was the first i knew about the company ceasing trading despite that date being 30/04/2009!!! no emails and no letters to confirm the collapse of the company!!! i managed to get another apartment thanx to the nice people in spain but obviously had to pay again… as i payed with my debit card and not debit card i know that i have lost my money… which is £165…. not a lot compared with how much some people have lost!!! why do this government keep letting companies like this get away with such disgusting lower than low ways on genuine hard working families!!!
we know that they will now be trading again under a new name!!! thanx xcapewithus and all the greedy executives that have all of our money!!! cos the hotels certainly have not got it!!!! russ

Dear annie … xscapewithus.com was based in palma mallorca and i know coz i worked for them for one day and left because the drive everyday from pollensa killed me and i didnt find them very friendly … so didnt go back … so hope that helps … the staff were english and spanish
