Naples International Airport is the largest international airport in southern Italy. The airport, also known as Naples Capodichino, is located 4.3 miles northeast of central Naples in the suburb of San Pietro a Patierno. It served 5.77 million passengers in 2007, making it the 6th busiest airport in Italy and the 57th busiest airport in Europe that year. Naples International Airport is an important gateway to the city of Naples and the surrounding region of Campania. The area is a popular tourist destinations; year-round scheduled and charter flights bring holiday makers to Naples from destinations across Europe. The airport also offers important domestic services to international and regional airports throughout Italy.

Low-cost scheduled airlines such as easyjet, TUlfly, SkyEurope and Wizz Air offer regular services to and from the airport as do national flag carriers including Air France, Air Austria, British Airways and Lufthansa. Charter airlines such as Thomas Cook Airlines and Thomsonfly also have a strong presence here offering seasonal flights during the holiday months.
