It served close to 10 million passengers that year; making it the 4th busiest serving the London area after Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. The airport is located 1.5 miles east of Luton and about 35 miles north of central London. It is a major hub for low-cost scheduled airlines; about 90% of the passenger traffic here is generated by no-frill services to destinations throughout Europe. Charter flights to European and intercontinental locations account for the remaining passenger traffic. The airport is also used by business airlines and cargo carriers. At the moment there are flights from London Luton Airport to over 30 locations across the UK, Europe, North Africa and Middle East.
