The airport at Jersey is the largest in the Channel Islands. In 2007 it served close to 1.6 million passengers, which made it the 21st busiest airport in the UK that year. Jersey Airport is situated 5 miles northwest of the island capital, St. Helier, in the parish of St. Peter. Before the airport was constructed, air traffic coming to and from Jersey used the beach at nearby St. Aubin's bay as a runway.
