Dublin Airport is Ireland's main international air hub. It handled 23.29 million passengers during 2007, which made it by far the busiest airport in Ireland that year and the 14th busiest airport in Europe altogether. Shannon, Ireland's second busiest airport in 2007, handled 3.62 million passengers during the same period. The air traffic passing through the airport is mostly international; of 2007s 23.29 million passengers, just 0.9 million were domestic customers travelling to destinations across Ireland. Dublin Airport is located 6.5 miles to the north of Dublin city centre, close to the town of swords. The Irish capital is becoming an important business centre as well as a popular holiday destination. The range of flights offered reflects this; the airport primarily serves scheduled flights to short-haul leisure and business destinations throughout Europe. The Irish national airline, Aer Lingus is based at Dublin Airport, as is Ryanair, Europe's largest no-frills carrier.
Dublin Airport has the facilities to serve the passengers passing through its doors, although it will need to upgrade and expand to keep up with demand. As it to be expected from an international travel hub, amenities such as hotels can be found onsite.
