Berlin Tegel "Otto Lilienthal" Airport is currently the main airport serving the German capital, Berlin It is situated northwest of the city centre in the Berlin borough of Reinickendorf. It is one of two international airports currently serving the city and offers flights to destinations throughout Europe, North America, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East, as well as numerous domestic locations. In 2007 the airport handled 13.35 million passengers, making it the 4th busiest German airport that year after Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf, and the 29th busiest airport in Europe as a whole. Berlin Tegel Airport is the main base for airlines Air Berlin and Germania; it is also a focus airport for national flag carrier Lufthansa. In fact, services provided by Air Berlin and Lufthansa account for around 60% of the total commercial air traffic at Berlin Tegel. The airport is due to close in 2012 with the opening of Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport.
