Berlin Schonefeld Airport Guide

Name: Berlin Schonefeld Airport
IATA code: SXF
Address:  Flughafen Berlin Schonefeld, Berliner Flughafen-Gesellschaft mbH, 12521, Berlin, Germany.

Berlin Schonefeld is one of two international airports serving the city of Berlin. It is located just outside of the city boundaries, southeast of the city centre, close to the town of Schonefeld, Brandenburg. The other airport serving the German capital, Berlin Tegel, is located inside the city limits, to the northwest of central Berlin. It is the busier of the two airports but is scheduled to close in 2012. Berlin Schonefeld served just over 6.3 million passengers in 2007, making it the 8th busiest airport in German and the 51st busiest airport in Europe that year. Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Berlin Tegel, Hamburg, Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart all saw higher passenger numbers over the same period of time. The airport primarily serves the holiday market, with nearly all flights offered being charter services to holiday hotspots and low-cost scheduled flights to popular European destinations. Easyjet, Ryanair, German Wings and Condor all have a large presence here. Work is currently underway on a new airport just to the south of Berlin Schonefeld. When complete, Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport will become the main airport serving Berlin.
